Opening the Mind to Release the Body

Alison McLean

The lazy days of Summer are officially here. As I mentioned last month, it is normal and healthy to let go of old routines and lighten up on responsibilities. However, it is easy to completely slip out of self care. Which may feel good in the moment, but not in the long term. Especially when Fall eventually shows its colors, and we feel sluggish and unprepared.

How do you find a balance? The truth is, there is no balance. It is all relative to you, and ebbs and flows with life. The key is to continue to carve out time for yourself, even if it is half the frequency or duration. Or, trying something different. Going for a walk with your family while traveling, instead of your normal gym routine. Trying a new Yoga studio in a new town. Yoga and PT accessories are typically easy to travel, for example straps pack light. So bring part of your routine on the road, or beach-side. I plan to implement these practices myself as my daughter, husband and 2 dogs enjoy the beautiful weather of San Diego.

When traveling, or even if staying local and just getting to the beach more take notice of how your body and mind feel. Stepping out of the norm is a great way to open your mind to different lifestyles and ways of living. Typically I hear patients and students feel great when on vacation, but when they return pain and discomfort returns? Why is this? Only you can notice the patterns, and differences. Sometimes the answers are not the ones we want to hear, or lead us down a more challenging road. However, noticing and giving awareness to these difficult questions help to lead a life of fulfillment and ultimately less pain and discomfort.

To assist with becoming a more complete self and finding consistency during change of normalcy I am offering specials for June.

Namaste,

Alison

June Specials

Are you experiencing pain and discomfort and do not know the true source? Learn more about your self and body. Schedule a one on one session with me. I will perform a physical evaluation to determine the bio-mechanical root source of the dysfunction. Sessions with my are different than the average physical therapist because I do not schedule sessions back to back so there is no rush, and we can unravel the layers of the onion. Because I am also a Yoga and Massage Therapist I can use different modalities to promote healing. You will be with me the entire session, never an aide or assistant.

New patient: Finally learn more about your body. Schedule a 60 min. evaluation with me and receive a 5 mL bottle of Lemon or Peppermint Essential oil (your choice). Both are refreshing and energizing in water and promote hydration during these hot summer days.

Current patients: Purchase a package of five 1 hour sessions to be used at your pace. This will help to promote consistency and follow through. With a package purchased receive a 5 mL bottle of Lemon or Peppermint Essential oil (your choice). Both are refreshing and energizing in water and promote hydration during these hot summer days.

Call (858) 248 2272, or e-mail Alison@ignitewellnessandiego.com. This special will end the last day of July.

Yoga Pose

Open your heart to the fun of summer with this restorative chest opener. Place one block on the medium height in between your shoulder blades, and one block at the tallest setting underneath the base of the skull. If this feels too much, lower the block heights. If it is comfortable with the low back straighten the legs. Then surrender and allow gravity to do the rest.
